Jonathan Wagner

Pastor

Jonathan Wagner joined the Covenant Presbyterian Church family in October 2014 as the Associate Pastor for Young Adult Families and Evangelism. Prior to serving at Covenant, Jonathan served as the Associate Pastor for Missions and Senior Youth and Their Families at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Jonathan became head pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in September 2020.

Jonathan and his wife, Elizabeth, grew up in Starkville, Mississippi, and met at a church youth group gathering while in high school. They dated during high school and college, and they were married in May 2005. Jonathan graduated from Starkville High School and from Mississippi State University. After graduating from Mississippi State with a BA (Philosophy/Religion), Jonathan took a position as the Director of Student Ministries at First Presbyterian Church in Starkville. He served there for three years, during which time he ministered to middle school and senior high students. He also began a college ministry as an outreach to the students at Mississippi State University.

In 2010, Jonathan received his M.Div. from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Not only did Jonathan and Elizabeth spend a great deal of time studying during their time in Pittsburgh (Elizabeth was simultaneously getting her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh), but they also became fans of all the professional sports teams in Pittsburgh, especially the Steelers and the Penguins. In addition to cheering on their favorite sports teams, Jonathan and Elizabeth enjoy playing in God's good creation (hiking, camping, kayaking, and hunting). Jonathan and Elizabeth are blessed to have two daughters, Judah and Kinde, and a son, Joshua.
